Day 16 - Friday 3rd April

At last - a decent night's sleep. And my son emerges at lunchtime, so I spoil him with crushed avocado and poached egg on toast for brunch. I drop my sick friend a message but she doesn't reply until lunchtime. She has been dozing after being afraid to sleep last night, but she's feeling a bit better. We have our weekly check-in with the trustees of my charity, and everybody is fine apart from an unexpected outbreak of chicken pox.

I have some orders to post for my online shop and hubby takes those when he goes to the supermarket. He comes back with most of the things I asked for and some that I didn't. I have been looking for groceries online to avoid going out but some items remain stubbornly out of stock - the only one I really need is chick peas but pasta and flour are also in short supply everywhere. I wonder whether pasta is mostly made in Italy and affected by their CV lockdown. It's still impossible to get an online delivery slot, even for a couple of weeks time.

I don't really know where the day went … I changed the bedclothes but that really hasn't taken all day. I guess it doesn't matter, but I'm not used to being so unproductive. I feel like I should begin to chunk up my day and set specific goals, otherwise I'm going to struggle. Late last night I  responded to a Facebook post about sewing scrubs at home for the Royal Berkshire Hospital and this morning I got an email from the co-ordinator. That would be something that would make me feel I'm making a proper contribution.

Deaths are climbing here - over 3,000 - and the deaths of a 13 year old boy, two nurses and two healthcare assistants have been announced today. There's a lot of confusion about whether there's enough PPE and what's being done to procure enough ventilators. On the plus side, new hospitals are being created in exhibitions centres all over the country, and the London one opened today. My sustainable side loves that they are using existing buildings that are currently standing empty.

Joined the Great British Chorus for another rehearsal tonight and as part of our warm-up we sang "Lean on Me", in honour of Bill Withers, who died today. He was a big favourite of mine although I've got out of the habit of listening to him. I put him on Alexa while I cook dinner and sing at the top of my voice. Tonight we're having cumin roast cauliflower/pancetta-wrapped pork loin with fresh veg and potatoes.
