Day 17 - Saturday 4th April

That was a rubbish night's sleep. I woke about 3.30am and couldn't get back to sleep at all. I finally gave up at 7am and went to watch the live action Aladdin movie with a duvet on the sofa. After breakfast I join my yoga teacher's class on Facebook live, which is lovely but she's rotated through 90degrees the whole way through. From 11 to 1 I join Morning Gloryville, an online rave. At first I keep my video camera off because I feel self-conscious but eventually I relax into it. Now that I've discovered zoom backgrounds I can vary them to suit the occasion - this one requires the flags of WOMAD.

My son emerges soon after it starts an I take a quick break to cook him breakfast burritos; since it's so hard to keep him in our timezone I've decided to reward him by cooking him something he likes whenever he emerges before lunch - otherwise he has to make it himself. I keep the music on loud so I can hear it while I cook; some of the other ravers are dancing as they cook, many have dressed up and decorated their rooms. Although we're all separate there's a lovely atmosphere and I feel really connected to these strangers.

I grab some lunch then it's time to Sing at Home. This week we're singing "Lovely Day" in honour of Bill Withers … and it is, indeed a lovely day. It's an easy song compared to I'm Still Standing and I really enjoy it. When it finishes, my niece comes over to pick up some gardening equipment to borrow (with appropriate distancing of course) - she's been put on three weeks gardening leave as she's an events organiser and of course there are no events to organise.

I spend some time relaxing in the hammock, menu planning for the week, and then my daughter and her family arrive to pick up the shopping Simon got for them yesterday. Again, we keep our distance and my grandson stays in his car seat, playing "peek a boo" and waving at us. He must wonder what's going on, although I guess he won't remember much about this period when he's older.

Tonight hubby is having a virtual beer and curry night with his friends; I wonder what they will talk about now there is no sport on! I cook a veggie curry for son and me, and after we've eaten I go online again to watch a streamed comedy gig. An early night for me, it's been a long day.

Today I am grateful for the wide variety of activities I can participate in online.
