Day 36 - Thursday 24th April
I have a busy morning planned - at 9am I'm attending a webinar and then straight after I have a yoga class. Fortunately I can wear the same for both - the joys of Zoom! The webinar is about sales - for me the most difficult thing about running my own business. There's more work to be done for the climate change partnership as well, preparing the agenda for next week's board meeting and the transition to a new chair at the end of the incumbent's two year term.
I eat lunch in the garden, since the weather is still glorious, before returning to my PC to help finalise the board meeting. I pop out to the post box - Royal Mail has converted its franked mail post boxes to small parcel post boxes (presumably because offices are not creating so much franked mail since most of them are closed) so now I can post orders whenever I like. When I get back I help promote an online market being run by one of the brands I sell. I have a long call with another of my brands from the garden, which is a fab way to do business.
From 6 to 8 I attend an online meeting of the Women in Sustainability Network which is looking at the learnings from Covid-19 that can be applied to the transition to a sustainable economy. There are around 50 of us on the call, including a few familiar faces, and it's brilliantly organised. There are two guest speakers and after each one we are split into smaller chatrooms to discuss the content before being called back to plenary. It feels very sociable even though we are all physically distant.
One of my current challenges is overwhelm - I have a growing list of things I planned to do while normal business was suspended, but there is so much interesting and relevant content online it's easy to get distracted. I need to focus and introduce more structure into my days, with clear prioritisation. Even with at least two weeks of lockdown ahead, I can see that I won't get everything done unless I'm more disciplined.
Dinner tonight is gyros, which are well received by hubby and son. The flatbreads are a bit too big so the portions are enormous, but they were the best I could manage. The fresh produce supplier I use has introduced two new boxes so I have placed an order for those which will expand my repertoire next week. Tonight Childen in Need and Sport Relief have combined to create a fundraising evening to support those who are particularly affected by the current crisis. I donate by entering a competition which might win my grandson a book written by David Walliams with a character named for him.
My son has a zoom call with friends planned and needs a plain backdrop so that he can set up a comedy background. I have some photo studio equipment for photographing products for my shop, including a greenscreen cloth so I help him set that up in front of his PC; he observes how, as a family, we seem to have a habit of taking things too far. I think he's right, but in a good way.
Today I am grateful for fundraisers.
