Day 45 - Sunday 3rd May

No time for a lie-in today, I have a zoom call scheduled for 8.30am with my daughter and my friend in Australia. We have a lovely chat, albeit somewhat dominated by the pandemic since we don't every go out and do anything else we can talk about. Inspired by my friend who just got a PPI payout I decide to go through all my papers today - I have filing to do and this will also help me locate the letters I received with next steps for my PPI claims. I get engrossed in that and forget that my sister is due at 11 for socially distanced coffee on the veranda. She brings me flowers, which is a wonderful treat, and I am happy to be able to reciprocate with a couple of tops I don't wear anymore.

I finish my filing mid-afternoon and then wash and straighten my hair. It definitely makes me feel more human - although it's getting too long to lie right at the back. Nobody can see that on zoom though! I am fed up with the orange tinge my task light gives to my face, and with a zoom interview scheduled for midweek and a panel slot at an online conference the week after I decide to order a couple of daylight bulbs in the hope of resolving that. I could put my desk near the window but it works really well in the alcove - and I'd still need artificial lighting at night anyway. I've also been meaning to make some videos for my online shop, and I've been putting it off because I don't like seeing myself on camera. But the endless video meetings have made me more used to it, so I should probably bite the bullet.

A friend has posted on Facebook that she drove to Oxford today to take a coronavirus test; she was invited to do so because she has been logging her symptoms in the phone app. She said the swab makes you gag but other than that it's simple and straightforward - she'll hear within 72 hours whether she has it. My friend who had the virus got tested in Reading but I guess that's only for people who are more badly affected as it included lots of other health checks too. Then my yoga buddy mentions that her daughter has symptoms - a sore throat and a very high temperature. That's baffling because they have been self-isolating; she and her mum have gone out for runs but been very careful to stay six feet from people. I have a quick call with my friend who is recovering from CV and she seems to be getting her mojo back.

I decide to cook a recipe kit from The Spicery this evening - it's a Goan curry recipe and rated 5 chillies for heat, but we're a spicy household so I reckon we can handle it. I was wrong. The chicken vindaloo is to hot even for hubby. He fills up with cheese while we watch The Current War movie. Our son has finished his maths assignment, and this evening has a call with his friends.

Tonight I am grateful to have seen my sister.
