Day 62 - Wednesday 20th May

I struggled to get to sleep again last night and resorted to Sominex which did the trick - I slept through. I wake to eyes that are struggling to focus though. I'm wondering if this is an effect of the lockdown - I spend most of every day focusing on a screen and don't adjust my focal length as much as usual. I also think I'm losing muscle mass due to not walking so much. I think a daily walk would help with both of these issues.

I get down to work preparing the presentation for my interview tomorrow, and my son appears. He hasn't managed to sleep at all and he's really struggling. It's partly due to his ADD, certainly, but also he's spending all day inside with the curtains closed and getting no exercise, so I try to coach him to adapt his habits to support better sleep hygiene. I make us both breakfast burritos and we eat them outside - it's a glorious warm, sunny day.

I go back to my preparation but hit a wall - I just can get my thoughts straight for the final section of the presentation so I suggest a walk to hubby. We're not out for long, but it's good to be in the fresh air and able to see trees and when I come back the work comes easier. My son goes for a nap, and then it's a nightmare to get him up again. Hubby's friend arrives at 4pm for drinks on the veranda and I wash my hair and prepare for tomorrow's observed coaching session by doing all the maths problems on the sheet, although I only need to teach a handful of them.

Tonight's news is all about the track and trace app which the government now claims will be launched by 1st June, but possibly a prototype rather than the full version. It appears that many councils have decided not to open their schools on June 1st after all. The government has also granted leave to remain to immigrant families of health workers who have died of Covid-19. It does feel as though they are making policy up on the hoof, but in an unprecedented situation it's hard to get things right first time I suppose.

My son and I have leftover cassoulet for dinner, together with some herby bread I made - it was supposed to be focaccia but it's not quite there but still delicious. He goes off for a shower; he plans to call his girlfriend and then have an early night. I prepared chicken and pasta for Simon to eat when he's ready but at 9pm he's still drinking on the veranda with his friend so I settle down to watch TV alone. My son brings back my worksheets; I've only made one mistake which I encouraging as I've not attempted any maths problems for at least 40 years!

Today I am grateful for glorious weather.
