Day 58 - Saturday 16th May

I have errands this morning. I have stock to pick up from my supplier in Tadley, and my prescription is ready for collection. I go out just after breakfast, armed with a mask and sanitiser and a heap of trepidation, as my pharmacy is in the part of town with the highest infection rate. They are limiting entry to 2 people at a time, so I queue outside and when I go in it's not as bad as I expected. There are Perspex screens to protect the staff, although the one that serves me has her mask covering only her mouth. I drop my prescription on the floor of the car, followed by my mask, and breathe out. Picking up the stock is much less stressfull - I pick up the box from their doorstep, drop the items I'm returning and ring their bell, retreating to a safe distance and exchange pleasantries when they open the door. I'm back in time to prepare a roasted veg frittata for my lunch - better not to drink whisky on an empty stomach!

Two of my friends join the zoom call, but there is no sign of the third - we message him and he has got engrossed in a mechanical project and can't pull himself away. We have a good chat over some fine whisky and recall our travels to Scotland - hopefully something we'll be able to do again before too long. I limit myself to half-measures of the three whiskies I'm selected to taste, mixed with a little water to release the flavour.

After lunch I set up the new products on my website and do some social media promotion, get some laundry done and do some menu planning. I try to cancel our water emergency cover (an economy measure) but they won't take my instruction because it's in hubby's name. The flour I ordered yesterday arrives which is way more exciting than it really should be, followed by a Degustabox which contains a selection of new products to sample and was free because of the number of people I've referred.

Hubby has arranged cocktails with his friends this evening, so he has his dinner my the PC. I made gormeh sabzi for him and some curries from my epic curry encyclopedia for my son and me; he wants to eat at 7 so he can study for 8 hours after(!). It's quite stressful preparing a total of 6 dishes in an hour, but we're only a few minutes late sitting down. I wash up and return to my PC to watch the first week of a MOOC on helping young people with low mood during Covid-19. Even with the doors closed I can hear hubby bellowing to his friends - he gets very loud when he's drinking.

Hubby comes to find me and we watch some comedy on TV, then he says he's ready for bed and tries to find me something I can watch without him. I'd rather choose for myself, and I say so, but he's not getting it. I settle for what's on - an alphabetical review of Eurovision over the years, which turns out to be more entertaining than I expected. He watches it all. When he finally goes to bed I get some food out of the freezer for tomorrow and set off the breadmaker. I would have done that an hour ago but hey ho.

Tonight I am grateful for friendship.
