Day 76 - Wednesday 3rd June 2020
As soon as I'm awake I check my phone to see if there's an email from my prospective employer - yes! I race to the PC to read it on a proper screen and he had agreed to all the changes I requested to the contract. This is wonderful news - especially the changed working days which means I can take care of my grandson. I respond to the email and ask for a call to bottom out a couple of final queries and then begin my work for the day. I have a zoom call with my charity and another community group that wants to propose a project, followed immediately by a handover call with the former chair of the climate change charity. The charity CEO messages after to request a follow up call, and I have another request for a call. All good and productive, but it's eating into the time I had allowed to prepare slides for a webinar I have to speak at this evening.
I grab a very quick lunch before the scheduled call with the fourth member of the senior management team I'm joining. She's lovely and I take to her immediately; we even have a contact in common who we have both worked with - she as part of his team and me on the climate change partnership. Immediately after I have my call with the MD and we quickly resolve my outstanding queries; he promises to send over a contract for me to sign and I get on with preparing my slides for later. I break off briefly for the call with the charity CEO; I tell her my news because she's on leave for the rest of the week and I don't want her to return to find everybody else knows but her. The contract arrives - I print it, sign it, scan it and email it back. It returns with the counter-signature and I breathe a huge sigh of relief.
There's no time to celebrate as I have to prepare dinner in advance of my 6pm webinar. Hubby has been trying to get our son up since 3.45 when he asked to be woken. His exams have started and he has one due to submit tomorrow, but he's sleeping later than ever. He seems fine about it, but it stresses us out. I prepare a Thai-style veggie curry from Jack Monroe's book, leaving the final stage to complete after the call. Hubby is having gammon, egg and chips. The webinar goes well, although the group is small - only 16 people. Dinner has a celebratory feel - no doubt my euphoria is infectious. After we've eaten I make some hummus and felafel to make sure that my son has something to eat after we've gone to bed, and by the time I've finished that it's pretty late. I tell close family and friends the good news and have a call with my bestie who is already in bed. I'm still too wired to sleep so we watch another episode of A House Through Time. I'm feeling more and more drawn to Bristol as a place to live - despite its difficult history, the importance of water is a pull.
Tonight I am grateful for having found a job that I think will be perfect.
