Day 115 - Monday 13th July
It would have been my lovely Dad's birthday today.
The morning news is full of Brexit - the government has announced that today they will publish a slew of documents about how Brexit will affect business. It feels as though they have "got Coronavirus done" and now it's time to "get Brexit done". It feels both more irrelevant and more ill-advised than ever, creating additional unnecessary disruption and complexity on top of that already created by Covid and with the potential to increase prices and interrupt supply chains. The news that the government is now considering eliminating Hwawei from critical infrastructure has led to warnings that it could take 10 years, or else cause interruptions to mobile data services.
A busy day at work, with lots of Team meetings and plenty of writing. I also have to prepare for my B&B guests who arrive tomorrow and I'm behind schedule. I prepare ahead for dinner so that I can do yoga at 6.30 then as soon as we've eaten I start cleaning. Hubby has already done the dusting and hoovering so it should be a fairly quick job to clean the bathrooms but I find one shower is draining very slowly and when I check the other I find the wastewater trap is clogged with slimy hair - yuk. I remove it for a thorough clean and go in search of the drain unblocking liquid. It all takes much longer than expected and it's 10pm by the time I finish.
By the end of the day, it has been announced that masks are to become compulsory in shops next week. This was signalled ahead by the government so it's not a surprise. I order some from local makers to avoid using disposable ones - some plain black and blue ones for hubby and son and a fancy black and white one for me. Tonight's wind-down TV is the last episode of The Mandalorian. Tonight I'm grateful that my friend is back at yoga class after the death of her Dad.
